It’s been a while, but boxy vans and wagons are starting to make comeback in the automotive industry. Of course, we are not headed back into a time of the Volvo station wagon design, but corners are being turned into more right angles. Suzuki has just introduced their new Wagon R for the Japanese domestic market, dubbed the Wagon R Stingray. Stingray is built on a new platform, which increases overall wheelbase for enhanced stability. Underneath Stingray’s hood is a 660cc turbocharged engine. The Wagon R has historically been the best-selling vehicle in that class, but has also been a bit noisy and rugged – with more stability and a decrease in interior noise expect to see sales boost even further.
If sales continue to rise overseas, and the popularity of small, box-looking vans grows here, you can probably expect to see Wagon R (or some domestic variation on the name) at Suzuki dealerships soon.
